The Legislative Lobby Team has a volunteer leader for each legislator in the Portland tri-county area who arranges for an in-person or Zoom meeting a few times each year. MCAT also keeps legislators up to date on quickly changing bills as they are being crafted during sessions, and provides legislators and their staff with background on key issues (such as the threats of methane, or the role of land use regulation in climate policy planning) in between sessions. MCAT sponsors public forums and our members contribute as expert panelists on issues relating to the climate and upcoming legislation. MCAT constituent teams are encouraged and given the preparation they need to attend town hall meetings and bring up pertinent climate questions to their legislators, while also encouraging them to become climate champions.
